Your ceramic dripper comes with a How To Guide, but start with the directions on the Melitta filter box. Fold over the bottom and side of the filter where it is crimped to maximize placement and flow through. Next wet the filter and let it flow through to cup and then empty. Refer to the How To Guide to continue brewing your favorite coffee.

All you need to make your first rich brewed cup of pour over coffee at home. Knowing the process will produce better results but you can modify too! How do you make pour-over coffee? Our user guide will walk you through the details, but essentially you place the coffee dripper over your mug, insert one of the coffee cone filters, and spoon in your ground coffee. Then you pour nearly boiling water, slowly and with a circular motion, over the grounds. You will see the coffee begin to "bloom" as the coffee brews and flows into your cup.

How much coffee should I use?

This depends on the type of coffee you like, how strong you like it, and how finely ground it is. Typically the finer the grind the stronger the coffee. We suggest starting with about 2-3 tablespoons and after making a couple of cups you will discover the right amount for you.

FAQs

Does it matter what kind of coffee I use? Use your favorite kind. The finer the coffee the ground, the slower it will brew, imparting richer, deeper flavors.

Does it matter what kind of filters I use? We love the brown Melitta filters as they do not pass on any flavor to the coffee in our opinion, but you can use other filters if you wish.

Should I fold the filter? Yes, it is best to crimp the side and bottom seams. The side of the Melitta box shows you exactly how to do this to optimize flow through the filter.

Is the pour over dish washer safe? Absolutely. We hand wash ours but if running a load, we always throw it in.

What is the best temperature of water to use? Boiling water? It is actually best to be a few degrees below boiling. Once the water boils, we wet the filter, let it drain into the cup to warm it (an ounce or so), then pour it out and spoon in the coffee. By then the water is the perfect temp.
